Terms of Service
Version 2.0 · Effective 2 August 2026
These terms are a binding agreement between you and SealedDrop ("SealedDrop", "we", "us"), which operates the service at sealeddrop.com from Minnesota, USA. You can reach us any time at support@sealeddrop.com.
They are deliberately short. We would rather you read them.
1. Accepting these terms
You accept these terms by ticking the box we show you before you can use the service, by starting a trial, or by subscribing. The box starts unticked. We record the date you agreed and which version you agreed to. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
If you are agreeing on behalf of a firm or practice, you confirm you are authorised to bind it.
2. What the service does
You choose a file. Your browser encrypts it before it is uploaded. You get a link that contains the decryption key. You share that link. Your recipient opens it once, downloads the file, and the encrypted copy is then deleted.
We never receive the decryption key, so we cannot read your files or see their filenames.
3. The most important thing on this page
If the link is lost, the file is gone permanently.
The key that decrypts your file exists only inside the link. It never reaches us. We cannot recover it, reset it, resend it, or reconstruct it. No support request can change this, because there is nothing on our side to recover from.
This is the trade you are making for a service that genuinely cannot read your files. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
4. How links behave
- A link works once. Opening it starts a one-hour download window.
- Inside that window a download can be retried if the connection drops, up to ten attempts. If those are used up, the transfer ends and the file is deleted, even if the download never finished.
- If nobody opens the link, it expires after the period you chose, up to seven days.
- You can revoke a link from your dashboard while it is still live.
When a transfer ends — downloaded, revoked, or expired — we delete the encrypted file and then ask our storage system to confirm it is gone. Almost always it confirms immediately. If it cannot, we retry. If it still cannot after repeated attempts, we record that transfer as deleted-unverified rather than claim a confirmation we do not have, and we investigate.
5. Your account
You need an active subscription to send files. Recipients need nothing — no account, no password.
Keep your sign-in email secure: anyone with access to it can sign in as you. Tell us at support@sealeddrop.com if you think someone else has access to your account. You are responsible for what is sent from your account.
6. Payment, trials, and cancelling
- Plans are $9.00 or $24.00 per month. Billing is monthly; there are no annual plans.
- A 14-day free trial requires a payment card. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your card is charged and the plan renews automatically every month until you cancel. We ask you to confirm this separately before checkout, and we keep a record of that confirmation.
- Cancel any time from your dashboard, in a couple of clicks. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- We do not give refunds for partial months, except where the law requires it.
- If we change prices, we will tell you by email before the change affects you.
7. What you may not do
Do not use SealedDrop to send anything illegal, to distribute malware, to harass anyone, or to infringe someone else's rights. Do not try to break, overload, or probe the service, or to work around your plan's limits.
We cannot inspect what you send. Files reach us already encrypted, so scanning them is impossible — that is the point of the design. Our protection is instead that every sender is a paying account with a verified payment card, and that we act on reports.
Report abuse to abuse@sealeddrop.com. We may suspend or close an account, and delete transfers, where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken. We comply with lawful legal process, which can only ever produce encrypted data we cannot read, together with account and transfer records.
8. Your files are yours
You keep all rights to what you send. We claim no ownership and no licence to use your content — we could not exercise one, because we cannot read it.
We do not use your files, filenames, or account information to train, fine-tune, or evaluate artificial-intelligence models. That is not only a policy: your files are encrypted before they reach us, so there is nothing readable on our side to train on.
9. What we do not promise
We provide the service "as is". We work hard to keep it available and correct, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data caused by a lost link, an expired link, an exhausted download window, or your own deletion of a transfer.
Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Some states do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Ending the agreement
You can stop using the service and cancel at any time.
We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if payment fails, or if we stop offering the service. If we discontinue the service we will give you reasonable notice by email so you can stop relying on it. Sections 3, 8, 9, and 11 continue to apply afterwards.
11. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Minnesota, and we each agree to that jurisdiction.
Nothing here removes a right you have under the consumer-protection laws of the state where you live, including your right to bring a claim in small claims court.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service changes. If a change is material we will email active subscribers before it takes effect and ask you to agree again. Every version carries a number and an effective date. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it.
13. The rest
If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Not enforcing something immediately does not waive it. You may not transfer this agreement; we may transfer it to a business that takes over the service.
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us.
